Zetec S tdci (2008) 85000 miles

Engine fault light has come on, plugged into 2 diagnostics computers but the light is not on long enough to relay any information across. The injector seals are in desperate need of changing, was about to change them just before this happened so was wondering if that could cause this engine fault light to appear. Car is very juddery but drivable (down the the injector seals). we have just changed the transmission oil. Any ideas would be grateful before I take it to the ford garage :)

    even if the fault light goes out the code should be stored in the ecu for retrieval, what scanners have you tried?
