Mot Time...

Featured Replies

So, the Focus has it's MOT on Tuesday...

What do we reckon, pass first time? Any advisories?

By the looks of the photo then I think you will fall fowl of the mot regulations. Ha ha.

been staring at that thinking, what's that got mine hasn't (visually not a shed-load of goodies) love that chrome round the bottom of the air dam.

Guy over the road has one, but you don't notice because it's that brilliant white colour.

Chrome round the bottom is a Titanium feature I believe. Finishes it off nicely. :)

Haha :D

Well, it passed. :D

Only advisory was nails in a tyre which I already knew about (out of the repairable area).

Nice one, did you have any doubts before hand tho!?

heres a question, lets say a garage guts a DPF, then you take it back to them for an MOT, they know its been removed, would that add up to a fail or do they turn a blind eye illegally.

Mines up next month, an im debating whether or not to take it to the garage that did the work but might turn a blind eye to it or a different garage and run the risk of them finding it.

I know its a worry about nothing since they can only tell if they dismantle the undertray and what not which they cant do but still, would like to give myself the best possible odds of passing!

I hate MOT's, I'd rather go to the dentist :) It's hard finding a testing station that doesn't want to rip you off. Last years MOT the tester said to me my inner sills of 02 Focus (although it passed) were severely corroded and would need probably need replacing for the next mot. Ran it over the my mates pit and we both had a look which by the way he has qualified in magnetic particle inspections checking for corrosion on undersea pipelines etc so I tend to listen to him, he said it was nothing but light surface rust. A good scrub with a wire brush and slap on some hammerite and it was like new again.

I'm thinking of trying my local council which do mot's this time, they do not do repairs on private cars so they won't have a vested interest in trying to con some work out of you.

I always worry about MOT's, Dee, but my mates garage did it so I wasn't expecting to fail lol. Plus I'd checked it over myself anyway.

You could ask the garage you had the DPF removed at, obviously not with an audience in reception but if you can grab the tech out the front he'll more than likely say he'll pass it. I know of one or two locally that will even pass petrols with decats lol.

I hate the dentist lol, would definitely rather have the MOT myself! I guess I'm lucky in that I do know a fair bit about cars so know if I'm being ripped off. Of course its also handy having a mate as a tester!

That's a good point about the council testing station though, definitely useful for anyone that doesn't know a great deal about cars and could easily be ripped off. :)
