Spare/replacement Keys

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has probably been asked before but here goes. I Have recently bought a focus but as its second hand I only got one key. Does anybody know how much I'm going to have to shell out on getting a spare, I need it programmed obviously so I am guessing this is a job for a ford dealer. If it costs too much I will just get a standard key cut. Oh and I live in Teesside if anybody know somewhere reasonably priced I can get this done. Thanks

Google 'auto locksmith' AA also have mobile locksmiths, cost for lost key is £175+ vat spare key £105+ vat to do it at your house, probably shave £45 call out of that if you drive to them.

that is for a remote key..

If it doesn't have a chip in it it won't start the car as it won't turn the built in immobiliser off

Sent from my iPad using Ford OC

go to your local timpsons and get them to clone the I key you have already, cheapest way to sort it, will clone the imobiliser part so car will start as well as lock ,unlock

Timpsons will only cut a key they supply many wont clone them now

There's no standard key they are all chipped

Buy a new complete key from ebay and call a few local auto locksmiths for quotes.

The key will need programming to the car via the OBD data port in order to work with the PATS II immobiliser system in your car and also so it will work with the central locking.

If you go via the AA they will charge you their fee and also for the locksmith.

Cut out the middle man and go to the locksmith yourself.

Ford would do the same as the AA but also charge you top price for the key and insist on a 'diagnostic check' which would add about another £90 on top.

The cutting and programming takes about 10 minutes.

(P.S, Ford would also charge a minimum 1 hours labour on top).

Thanks for all the replies. I will ring around a few autolocksmiths but the way it sounds I think I will have to wait till I have the cash to burn
