Antifreeze Reservoir Issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

(I'm new here).

I noticed my coolant/antifreeze was just about at the min level in the resevoir. So went to Ford and got the correct coolant. Came home, let engine cool down fully. Open the cap to top up with antifreeze and this is what I am faced with.

Am I missing something obvious or is there something not right here? See photo below. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yep it's broke should be one piece

I think mine nearly did that, took both hands then a wrench! and was a struggle all the way every turn was really hard.

Just so you know, I topped mine up, it was down to just below the minimum the next day, it's stayed there for 5 months though.

We have a load of 2.5 Focus at work they seem to find there own level, I put 1/4 of a liter of OAT to get to the max, this is basically the amount it dumps straight away, I was going to buy a new cap, but everyone I know with a Focus seems to self level!

Back to your problems, you gonna have to unscrew it and get a new one, get the new one first as it's pressurized system.

OK great, thank you both for the input!

So I'll go ahead and buy a new cap from Ford. Ugh! Any suggestions on getting the old piece out of the centre? I don't want to go at with a wrench or pliers etc. if there is an easier/safer way. I understand this is pressurised so just do it when cold and I assume just try do it slowly to release pressure?

just gently lever it out of reservoir and reassemble , twists back together, then apply small amount of grease to the rubber seal , refit. job done
