Heater/fan Blower - Not As Effective As I Thought It Would Be

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Hope you are well.

Due to cold weather a thought has crossed my mind.

I have a Focus Estate 2005 1.8TDCI Mark 1. It takes forever to warm up (I understand diesels do take longer), its blower doesnt seem to be powerful at all even on highest setting, even after a 30 minute (local and motorway) journey it is still foggy on the inside with heating on full all the way.

If I select for it to blow from front on heater cluster, it feels like somebody is blowing on my hand, unlike my 2003 polo which feels quite strong in comparison.

Is this normal?

Any help is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

have you checked the pollen filter, if it is blocked it will restrict airflow.

Not checked, have recently had it serviced, pollen filter will be next to fit as garage said when the area is dry it would be better to fit.

Have heard that leaks arise after a pollen filter has been changed though.

never heard such nonsense. too wet to fit a pollen filter.lol, take the cowling off and check the filter, replace it and get some silicone sealer and put a bead of sealant on edge of cowling and refit, job done. takes all of 5 mins to do on a wet day! lol

never leaks again.

on the 2005 mk2 isn't the pollen filter accessed from inside the car behind the glovebox?

OP is saying its the Mk1 though.

The blower on my Mk2 is not up to much either. Got to put it on top setting to get it blowing. Then you have to turn stereo up.

Have changed the pollen/cabin filter yesterday. Its solved the issue, its made such a difference, however the old one was in a state.

Yet to put a bead of silicone on it as it was getting quite dark at the time.
