Aircon Pipes Disconnected On My Focus Mk2 2006 1.6

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently bought a Ford Focus 2006 1.6, which means I still haven't driven it in a warm day. So I never tested the air conditioning system, just assumed it worked. But today I was changing the bulbs on the RHS headlight and realised that two of the air conditioning pipes were completely loose. Since I couldn't figure out how they were put together or find any blueprints, you guys are my last resource before I get the car checked by a specialist.

Could anyone tell me whether this is normal or someone purposely detached them for some reason? Pics included.

Thanks!

These pipes should be connected to the dryer of the air conditioning system. On your pictures the dryer seems to be completely missing.

If the dryer is missing and the air conditioning system has been empty for some time the other parts of the system like the air conditioning compressor for example may also need to be changed. In your case the system needs to be complete before it can be pressure tested and a proper diagnosis can be made.

Oh dear 😞 as above you'll need the dryer put in first before you know if anything else is wrong with the system you may be lucky a drier and regass and it might be okay 👌

The dryer looks like a large thin silver coloured radiator and should sit in front of the main radiator. Yours appears to have gone AWOL.

Worse than I thought. Principally because the missing parts to fix the a/c are almost a quarter of what the car is worth. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your reply. I had no idea what 'the dryer' looked like, and judging by what I saw on eBay, I would end up buying something totally different.

The part on the picture is not the dryer. The parton the picture in front of the radiator is the condensor of the airconditioning system. The condensor is a heat exchanger which cools the gas formed coolant back to a liquid formed coolant.

The dryer is mounted more to the right side of the car below the headlight.

Hadn't realised that people called the condenser and dryer the same thing, was thinking that drier referred to the radiator.

Did look up the condensor on the parts diagrams but the pipe connections didn't match up with the open ends the OP posted.

the dryer is a cylindrical piece

dryer here £45.00 http://www.autoairparts.co.uk/ford-focus-ii---14i--16i-5603-p.asp

condensor £113.00 http://www.autoairparts.co.uk/ford-focus-mk2-all-models-4603-p.asp

compressor http://www.autoairparts.co.uk/ford-focus-mk2-1779-c.asp

the focus condensor sits in front of the main rad an dis the same size almost as the main radiator

I had to change my Air Con Condenser in Apr last year and got it from ebay for about £50.

Not the easiest part to install, you'll need to jack up the front, take the undertrays off, Imtercooler off, drop the main car rad off its brackets then you can start to think about putting the Condenser in. It's a tight fit but do-able

If u do decide get fixed make sure they vacuum system for at least 30 mins before putting gas in there be loads of moisture in system after been open for so long
