Random 'chime' Sound

Featured Replies

Whilst driving home last night on two separate occasions the dash 'chimed'. It's that single chime sound that I think it's supposed to do to alert you or something like that.

On both occasions no messages showed up on the display and I went into system check and it just said all systems normal. I'm pretty sure it's nothing but it's just bugged me that it's done it and I don't know why. Has anyone else ever had this happen before and if so why?

Cheers in advance!

My girlfriend hates that chime, it indicates that you don't have your seatbelt on, if you drive above 20km/h without a seatbelt it will keep on dinging, the other chime happens if a door is left open, but there is two other warnings as well, one on the centre screen and one on the dash.

I have always wondered if you have something heavy on the passanger side seat, will it also start dinging?

You know what, your right, I had a rucksack on my seat on the way home which I never put on there usually!

So the answer is yes, it must detect weight on the seat and chime to alert you that the belt isn't on. Cheers for that, didn't click until now but makes sense!

Glad I could help, I still wonder how many Kg's it takes for the seat to detect anyone?

Not a lot ill tell you that!

Sometimes I put a 2 litre bottle of juice/soda on the seat and "ding" about twice before I push the bottle into the footwell!

The contact is about 1 inch from the back of the seat, not where you would expect.

There are pressure sensors in the front seats to give the car a rough guess at how heavy the occupant is, so it can adjust the airbag pressure accordingly.

I'm not sure how heavy it needs to be to set it off, I always chuck my bag on the front seat and have not had an issue, so it is obviously not heavy enough.

You get the chime also if the temp outside drops to 4degrees or less! You'll get a symbol on the dash that warns you of slippy conditions, I noticed that on mine not too long ago!

O yes, forgot about that, probably because it's summer here :D

I think the snow flake is orange when below 4 degrees and red when below 0, or something like that.

Never get a chime when temp sensor shows orange or red

I'm pretty convinced I've had a chime but could be mistaken :)

Same here, no chime on the facelift.

Definitely seat belt reminder.

Also, 2 chimes and a burp if you're wearing yesterdays pants.

Car doesn't start? Auto call Thunderbird 6.

Where the hell are we heading?
