New To The Forum, Please Help With Focus Electrical Issue

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm Shaun.

I've got a 2006 focus 1.6 tdci with the 7speed tiptronic gearbox

I've owned this car for 4 years now, but recently ive been having some electrical issues

The car does drive still but the battery light & eml light are illuminated.

The battery light comes on after Aprox 10 seconds of driving, as soon as the batt light illuminates the smooth electronic double clutch becomes very jerky/ harsh

Using my code reader , I can clear the battery light & all goes back to normal for a few minutes...

My code reader is not able to tell me what the batt light is on for. But it did say eml light due to transmission MIL request.

Is this some sort of smart charge alternator or battery issue ?..

I'm hoping to borrow a scanner later this week to investigate further, just wondered if anyone else has seen this problem ?

Thanks

I'd look at doing a battery test to see if it's a duff battery first. If not then check the alternater and see if that's the culprit. Seems to me that the eml light is due to an issue causing the battery light to come on rather than a gearbox fault.

Thanks for your reply. I hoped that might be the case, the gearbox sounds expensive lol

What sorts of vaults should a smart charge alternator be making ?

I'm not sure on that one S40Un. But definitely get the battery checked as you first port of call. Then go from there and investigate further. With it being 2006 if it's never had a battery changed its now 9yr old and I would expect that it's reached the end of its usable life span now.
