So, tie for renewal and ive been having a chat with my insurance company. Im currently with elephant and have been for over 6 years now but this year my renewal has gone up by over double! wtf...

spoke with them and they dont know why, and cant match any other quotes i give them.

they want £1570 a year! whereas i can get it down to about £650 with other companies.

anyway, this year ive seen a company pop up called 1st central. never herd of them or seen them. Has anyone else? they are my cheapest this year and by a long way and before i go ahead and go with them, i just want to make sure its all good.

anyone recommend?

cheers

I've not heard of them.

How are the quotes for the rest of the admiral group? I.e. Admiral, Bell, Diamond, etc?

They can always match a quote from within the group. That is what I used to do each year.

Confused normally gives you best prices for the Admiral group as they own it.

Also never heard of them, personally I'd pay a little bit more and go with a company you'd at least heard of

Hi Adam

Yes I know if 1st Central!

This was about 2 to 3 years ago and they had only been going for about 2 years at the time.

I got a quote for my daughter and they were the cheapest so we went with them.

They were fine until my daughter changed addresses and they charged her about £110 pounds which was

ridiculous.

When I challenged them about this extortionate charge, they said it was because that postcode area was a higher risk area. I disagreed with them but it was either cancel the policy or pay the £110 which was cheaper than cancelling the policy which had only been running for a couple of months.

I checked with Tesco and Zurich Ins and they said that there would have been no additional charge for the new postcode.

"Over a barrel springs to mind".

I guess being a small company, that's where they make their mark up.

So, there you have it; if it had not been for the address change, we would have had no problems with them.

Hope that helps you make up your mind?

I think ill stick with the admiral group. Thanks for the info. I know LV were giving a nice cheap quote but never been with them, are they admiral too?

ive been on confused and 1st central and tesco's were my cheapest. shame as i like elephant lol

No, LV is a separate company.

Very good though, my Dad is with them. They are based down here in Bournemouth.

You can find the full list of insurance brands that are part of the admiral group here:

http://www.admiralgroup.co.uk/business/brands/index.php

I've never stayed with the same insurance company for more than 2 years.

In the old days it was an honest to God business where they were there to help if you needed it. Now its just money-grabbing, and so if they won't show loyalty, neither will I.

How is it possible for me to get a cheaper rate (with the same NCD as I switched mid policy) on a 2013 ST-2, than on my 2009 1.4 TDCI? It doesn't make any sense.

If you do have to claim, it doesn't matter which company you are with, they will do everything in their power to get out of paying up. A friend of my Dad has been an insurance assessor for +40 years and has told us about the changes, and how they have been briefed on reducing cost.

It is essentially a wager against yourself, and you need to decide what your wager is.

Hi Adam,

Feel free to try us for insurance. If you wanted to PM me your details I can arrange a call back from our quotes team?

Kind regards

Dan.

Hi Adam, if i were you i'd go with 1st central as they score 4 stars on Defaqto rating. www.defaqto.com/star-ratings/car-insurance

Compares well with other big names.

Just copy and paste address into browser

That's useful, also it's good to see that Ford Insure is 5 stars and Vauxhall is only 3 lol.
