How Do Scrap Yards Work These Days?

Featured Replies

Hello all.

The days of being able to walk around and pick up what you want gone now? Is it all on line?

I could do with going to one and picking up a few bits (those keeping tabs will know Im after projector headlights). Is there website listing where scrap yards are around the country? I can't find anyway!

Cheers

Kye

Most breakers in my area you cant walk around yourself any more due to UK's strict health and safety & environmental issues.

Search google for car breakers in your area :)

Up here you can walk around but they know the prices so its not cheap the decent cars are on a rack with a price is to get an st down is £700 you can take what you want off included in the price except the engine

the one i go to allows you to go down and see the cars yourself while wearing a high viz jacket

Several scrap yards around me, only one allows you to walk around, climb on cars and remove parts yourself.

scrappies near me hardly have any fords...mostly vauxhalls!

try motorhog for the lights or keep an eye out on ebay

Motorhog or Co-part may have what you want. If you're still struggling call http://www.scrapcarnetwork.org they might be able to point you in the right direction as they have a network of authorised car collection partners throughout the UK.

There is a scrapyard in Devizes that lets you walk around and climb cars. The buggers left a ST200 open to the elements and ruined the interior, I would have paid a ton for that. It still had the engine, I would have pulled that apart for the throttle body and intakes.

Long shot I know but I don't suppose anyone knows any good scrappys in Ayrshire?

could do with replacing some of the trim around the centre console.

A lot of scrap yards have ebay accounts, I got 2 rear calipers for 20 quid, they weren't listed normally, all the parts had the same description but after a quick chat we worked something out.

shed loads can be found on ebay that's been miss labled!

brentwood autos in essex

might have to try them cheers

Those in Essex with older Fords should try Autobreak in Colchester (near the Hythe Tesco). Excellent site, loads of cars, walk in and out as you like, reasonable prices. Only thing is they don't often have Mk2/2.5 Focii in, in fact I've only seen one there in the last few months and that was a pov spec 'style'. Mk1 Focus, Mk3 Mondeo etc loads of them though!

I'm not so keen on the closer Ipswich yards tbh, all on racks, can only walk with a worker, helmet and high vis and prices are quite high so I tend to use ebay for most parts tbh.
