what would the differences be between just a K&N panel filter and one of the induction kits?

I have a 2008 1.8L petrol

    Most induction kits will sound louder than just replacing the panel filter, not saying it would be too loud just you'd hear more induction noise.

    In theory a full induction kit will give more power gain than panel filter but might not be by much depending on the design of the kit.

    Panel filter is usually lot easier to fit than induction kit, on the other hand once airbox is removed and induction kit fitted you might have better access to oil filter or similar.
