2012 Stereo Problems With Upgrade, Maybe Software Issue?

Hi all, I'm a newbie on here and glad to have found this site and hello to you all... I've got a focus Zetec S on a 62 plate and really wanted to upgrade my stereo and have just bought a DAB Sony stereo with the colour screen which I thought was plug and play as it is a ford stereo as it come out of a 62plate focus ST ... After installation I noticed the stereo came on lovely but none of the steering wheel controls now work? Or the sync? The stereo works as a CD player and radio but nothing else? Can you give me any advice guys/Girls whether I'm doing anything wrong or is this a common thing? And is there a fix for it?
