Looking For Some Advice - Red Edition V Zetec S

Featured Replies

Hello all new to the forum :)

I'm currently driving a Corsa VXR that I've owned for 8 years. I test drove a zetec S at the weekend and was quite surprised at how nippy it was for a wee car then I realised that you can get the red and Black edition fiestas. I'm not a huge fan of red cars and don't like the black edition. I just wondered if it was actually worth the extra money for the power or am I better just sticking with the Zetec S and getting a colour that I actually like?

I only really drive about 12 miles to work there and back non motorway so figured the limited edition one would be quick enough for me but also save on fuel and tax etc. I know it won't be as quick as the VXR but I hardly push the car to its limit anyway.

Any advise appreciated :)

Unless you like the appearance, I wouldn't bother with a Red/Black edition.

The special editions are based off the Zetec S anyway, and are of bigger benefit to the rest of Europe, who don't get the Zetec S.

I originally wanted a white zetec s but when I compared the cost of adding 17" alloys and remap etc, buying the red edition was far cheaper as they come as standard

I'd say go for the red/black and just get the option to remove the contrasting colors.

At least in Denmark you can have a black edition without red roof and mirrors - I think it still has the red outline on the front though.

What's different between the red/black and ZS:

- 140 PS instead of 125

- 210NM instead of 200

- Lower gear ratios, which makes especially 4th gear a lot quicker (Beats the mountune by almost 2 seconds)

- You need to turn the steering wheel less to make the same turn, that is it turns the actual wheels more when you turn the steering wheel to the same angle. (Hard to explain causs I don't know the proper English word for it)

- Color scheme (ofc.)

Personally I love the part about the steering wheel as my old Honda Civic was the same way - it just feels more responsive and eager.

I'm driving a ZS but have ordered a black edition, which I'll get in about a week - my wife then gets the ZS :-D

I agree with the above, there are subtle changes that make the Red / Black Edition a worthwhile upgrade over a Zetec S, even with a Mountune upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

Garage is meant to be getting one in this week and going to give me a phone so hopefully get a test drive. I might change my mind and like the red when i see it in person.

Don't own one but think the red edition looks good, the black edition I'm not to sure on imo but hey its personal preference :)

I test drove both the black and ZS models and have to say I was won over by the extra power (although only slight) and increased responsiveness of the Black. I have had a black for just over a month now and I am loving it. The interior is that bit more special with the red trimmings also! I got a great deal from ford too! £2000 deposit and £129 for 24 months on lease! Definitely go for the black and you won't be disappointed.

I'd stick with the vxr.

I'd stick with the vxr.

One day you may say something good about Ford on a Ford forum!
