Tailgate Keeps Opening

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an 09 plate Focus 1.8 petrol, Great car but of late the tailgate keeps unlocking its self

Took the swith off to inspect , seemed ok, but while it was off the tailgate was still unlocking, have put a new ford locking mechanism on but still does it

Its random when it happens, can be as soon as i switch on, or reversing off my drive, or on way to work, sometimes doesnt do it for a couple of days, if i go over a speed hump it can shut itself the re-open within seconds or stay shut till the next hump

just no pattern

Anyone any idea`s

Many thanks

Not much help. I have a 2009 zetec. The button on tailgate has never worked but it came with two remote keys.

I bought a new switch from Lenny on here and that didn't work either. It appears that the switch has been disabled, I am told this can be done by the dealer tool, I assume the tailgate button on mine was disabled to stop it from flying open.

I have left mine so it only opens by the keys.

I think this is a common problem.

Mine has under 40k on the clock

sounds like if nothing else the wiring is shorting out causing the lock mechanism to release.

Cheers adam

Has this to be done at a Ford garage, and do you know how much i would expect to pay

I have 2 key fobs also, and mine has done only 48k

Only thing is when i firstly took the switch out, took the button out too, it still opened itself

Well anyone with the software, you can buy your own for £129 on e bay.

I was told this by a friend of a Ford mechanic, it makes sense as when I replaced my blister switch it looked like it had just left the factory, there were no loose or cut wires. I was also told the switches collected water and failed quickly, they have since designed them better.

Nothing I did would make mine open without use of the key fob.

Most if not all of this is assumption I'm afraid.

I had similar problems with my focus saloon 2006, the wire in the rubber boot that go's from boot lid to car body was all frayed and shorting out
