Focus Mk2.5 Rear Brakes Drum Version

Featured Replies

Just looking advice on the rear brake drums on the mk2.5 .

I recently removed the drums to check rear shoes for mot. And drums being tight to get of I had to use a bit of force 😠 so long story short I broke the small caps that sit over the cylinder ends. All is built up and working Ok but I never saw this before on the Ford's I have had in the past.

They look like guides to keep the shoes from pulling of the piston ends maybe when removing rear drums but can any one tell me do I really need these and where I could get a new set.

I checked them out on microcat but the part is not listed?????

Any info on these would be great.

Thanks in advance.

sorry for the delay Darren. I have been busy with other things. No its not listed in the parts diagram you sent me and its not listed in microcat either. I have taken a few pics to show these small caps and also altered your pic of the rear drums to show where they are located.

Basically they pop over the two ends of the cylinder pistons and the small lip on the, face outward (towards us).

It looks like they are to maybe stop the top tip of the brake show from pulling away from the cylinder piston when maybe removing the drum or maybe as a guide to keep the shoes top tip center of on the center of both pistons.

As I said I damaged them by forcing the drum of upon removal as it was tight (even with handbrake off lol!) car is braking 100% without them but If i could source them I would replace them just as they where there like.

Any information on these would be welcomed. Hopefully the pictures below help explain a bit better,

Thanks.

Hmm, it looks like its one of the parts that comes with the cylinders

(first one I googled, you might find a better price else where)

looking at that, it looks as though the caps are sold as one with the cylinders, several ford things ive replaced have been like that. The last one I got was a new clip for the breather pipe, course you cant get just the clip, you need the whole damned pipe, 50p suddenly becomes £25!

or you could join me in swapping them out for disc brakes! :)

got the last of my parts in yesterday, just need a couple of free dry days to put them on :D

Thanks darren for the replies mate.

I have checked out local auto shops and these caps dont come with or are nor part of teh cylinder so maybe they just come with fords geniune cylinders but its strange they are not listed on microcat as a part. They are defiantly not stuck to the cylinder pistons they just pop over the ends.

At The moment I have them removed just encase they jammed or got stuck in the braking mechanism but I think all will be ok with out them at the moment. As for changing to discs at the back I may do that mod in the future but at the moment I have enough to keep me busy lol!

Thanks again
