Coolant Is This Right.

Featured Replies

Today I bought screen wash so when got home I popped bonnet to fill it. It was making a whining noise. I've heard this before when stopped and turned off. Obviously has things it does when we turn off. However I noticed my coolant in the expansion tank was bubbling. After about 30 secs or so the whining (pump) turned off and so did bubbling.

I'm not so bothered by pump as it's meant to do that but should it be bubbling? Or is there maybe air in it.

Can anyone check theirs after a run and see ?

It should not be bubbling - your engine may be overheating - does the cooling fan cut in ?

I'll keep an eye on it. Temp running normal on it. I'm not sure what initiates that pump running when you switch off as took it a run there and didn't do it that time. Is it maybe cooling turbo ?

I'm thinking it's only bubbling at that time.

did you have ac on?

Mine bubbles sometimes after driving it hard. Others have also reported the same. I think it too is for cooling the turbo.

The 'bubblIng' was probably the cooling water recircing back to the expansion tank.

Yeah think it's right.

I've checked car after runs with engine running and it's fine barring the odd little shoogle from the engine.

It was only during this off position when it started that pump going or whatever it is and when that stopped so did the bubbling. As you say it's probably not bubbling in the sense of boiling, just puting liquid back.

I'm sure it's fine.
