Galaxy Mk3 Stereo Wiring

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to upgrade the stock stereo in our 2010 Galaxy, and I'm going slowly mad. Can anyone help, please?

The aim is to swap in a single DIN Kenwood unit. As far as I can see, this requires a wiring adaptor to sit between the cables of the new head unit and the original Ford Quadlock. I have that (in fact, I now have two), but I can't get the head unit to power on at all.

As far as I can see, the adaptor has a red cable that leads to pin 16 in the Quadlock (I think that's Ignition Sense) but the corresponding socket on the Quadlock is empty.

The original CD6000 stereo powers on perfectly happily whenever I plug that back in, so power is clearly coming from somewhere.

So - how do I get power ("switched live feed"?) to the new head unit? (and please bear in mind I have near zero electrical skills).

Thanks!

Jeremy

There is no switched live feed (IGN) on the original quadlock, as the OEM radios are always powered ( and get their switch signal from the CAN bus), you need a CAN adaptor to do the trick (or always switch manually).

Thanks, TomTom70, much appreciated.

Is a CAN adaptor difficult to get hold of? It's not something that seems to show up much on eBay.

Googling brings me back to this from Halfords - which as far as I can tell is what I have already.

Thanks for your help with this - it's well out of my comfort zone.

Awesome! I'll give that a try. Many thanks!
