Problems With Mk2 Mondeo

Featured Replies

hello guys and gals, we are new to your forum so please be gentle lol

weve just brought ourselves a w reg mk2 mondeo estate and have a few issues I wondered if any of you could point us in the right direction please ;

1. noise from front (o/s we think) like a whining noise. weve had it jacked up and checked and all ball joints seem ok and wheel bearing as far as we are aware. the noise only appears over 40mph.

2. rear suspension feels very soft, and some times feels like it has a mind of its own, could this be shocks or bushes or both ???

3. the key fob operates the central locking no problems but the indicators do not flash, however if you unlock the doors manually either in the boot or both front doors they only open the door you unlock with the key, also when your in the car and you press the handle on the door to lock all the doors, again it only locks the door you lock???? is this normal?

4. we don't have a handbrake or abs warning light on dash, is this a common problem or is something up do you think, I mean does it even have abs??

5. and lastly the radiator fan stays on continuously from the moment you start the car until you turn it off, thinking sensor or thermostat or???

sorry for the long list, but if any of you can poss shed some light and even your experiences/expertise we would be very grateful!! if not thanks for letting us join!!

thanks in advance.

I wonder if its the CV Joint or it could still be a bearing?

Its probably a combination. If the car isnt bouncing then its more likely the shocks.

I dont recall the central locking on the MK2 locking all doors but just the one, I cant recall as it was my dads car about 13 years ago lol As for the indicators, it could just be a loose wire, but otherwise the issue could be with the central locking module?

That sounds more like either a bulb has gone, or the light has been covered with black tape. Either way I suggest your best placed removing the cluster and checking the bulb and or for tape.

Thats probably a stuck thermostat, check the housing for any damage.

firstly thanks for the reply buddy!!

right... ive checked again today after swapping all the wheels around to rule out a bad tyre/wheel there seems to be movement in the driveshaft, not sure if im checking this correctly.

the rear of the car does bounce but very soft and doesn't take much effort to push downwards if im honest, sounds like a 70 year old man groaning when put under any pressure is prob the best way to explain lol.

found a wire hanging out what I presume is the central locking module just above the pedals, and now the indicators flash on locking vehicle and also now deadlocks, however the car now locks and unlocks the car with the key only on the passenger side not on drivers side.

the fan problem was due to the ac being on permantly which has now been switched OFF.

driveshaft certainly could be related, which end is the play at?

As for the bounce, it does sound like it probably is the shocks that are gone to me, but perhaps someone else can offer further insite!

As for the central locking, I am not sure where the module is, but glad that you got it at least working so far, I think the issue with the drivers door could be specific to the barrell on the door as opposed to the central locking, I wonder if its disconnected?

As for the aircon - doh! lol, question is does the aircon actually work?
