Airplay In Car

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been thinking about a wireless audio solution for those of us who have just an aux or USB connection in their car.

AirPlay traditionally can only be used in your house as it needs a router and ip addresses etc which isn't aomehong you have in a car, how ever I've found a cheap little box that is basically a self contained router and AirPlay receiver that's suitable for your car .

Now for those of you thinking why don't I use blu-tooth the answer is simple. I need to retain the blutooth connection to my stereo as I need it for the phone. Also blutooth is a low quality audio reciever.

This little box I found on eBay is perfect http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=351256971868

As I said its self contained and will allow you to stream audio wirelessly from your phone (sat nav, music etc) and retain Blu-tooth. Now for power I need to get a little Usb battery charger (£20 from eBay) and this should last a week or so. Those who already have a sub socket at the aux location are even luckier as you can power it via usb via that.

I've ordered one up tonight and I'll let you know how I get on with it. Google reports though seem to say it'll work well 👍

Phil

Looking forward to hearing/seeing the results ;)

I followed your lead and have bought one. Fantastic little box and does indeed do what it says on the box. The only problem I'm getting is clicking noises when nothing is playing. I've got it straight into the Aux in in the glovebox so I'm presuming its some sort of interference with the car. Is there anything I can use or put in between the socket and the router to counteract the interference? Any help, as always, greatly appreciated! Kurt.

What's the point in being grown up if you can't act childish every now and then?!

This reminded me of a Mighty Car Mods episode I watched a while ago. You may find this interesting...
