If you get your car serviced at a Ford dealer, do they usually check for software updates as part of the service or is it something you have to ask for and pay extra for?

not part of the service, and updates are normally only installed if there is a corncern to rectify.

def wouldnt recomend updates for the sake of them, can sometimes cause more problems than they fix

Might be more likely if the car is still under warranty as it lets them apply fixes for possible warranty issues without actually telling you there was an issue in the first place.

field service actions are normally a customer letter referal so customers are aware of any applicable fsa, or more rarley they are actions to rectify before sale or delivery.
