Jon Bhoy
Ok time for a moan.Just took my car for a major service and asked if they could clean the idle control valve . Was expecting to pay £200-250 but got there and they have basically done an oil change and charged £150.I can do an oil change myself so wasnt happy and asked about if they cleaned out the ICV as i requested due to the car stalling. The guy said yes they cleaned the throttle body,as he said the butterfly thing !!!!! He said thats all that can be cleaned on the 2010 focus! I am standing there totally puzzled as i am sure my car has it although cant find it myself . To say i am a bit pee'd off is an understatement! Just want to check that the 2010 Focus Zetec S 1.8 petrol would have one.Can anyone confirm and give me a rough idea where it is please? Many thanks. WES180
They are listed on eBay so if you have a look at the pics you should be able to spot it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4712.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xidle+control+valve+ford+focus+1.8+2010.TRS0&_nkw=idle+control+valve+ford+focus+1.8+2010&_sacat=
JW1982
The Petrol engines of the Focus MK2/MK2.5 do not have an Idle Air Control valve. The amount of air during idling is regulated by the PCM by opening/closing the throttle plate. The throttle plate is always a bit open when the engine is running and is constantly adjusted to achieve the optimal amount of air entering the engine during idle. WES180
I dont really have a clue about them but if they dont have them fitted then what are those on eBay listed for that model?
JW1982
The Idle Air Control valve listed on eBay is the aftermarket equivalent of OEM part number XS6U 9F715 AA (this is listed in the ad). This part is only used on the following Ford models: Transit Connect MK1 2002-2013 Escort MK7 1995-2001 Fiesta MK5 1995-2002 Ka MK1 1996-2008 Focus MK1 1998-2005 The compatability list on eBay is not correct. WES180
Thats useful then isnt it! For those like me who havent a clue we would rely on the compatibility list to be correct, idiots!!
Jon Bhoy
Yes that was what i thought too, because i saw them on eBay but searched all over the engine and could not see it.So do you think cleaning out the throttle body would sort the stalling and the idle dropping to about 500 before lifting? TomsFocus
eBay compatibility lists are rarely completely right I find!! Fortunately I tend to know what I'm looking for, but I know a lot of people won't and it is confusing/misleading quite often.
joelwool
Jon Bhoy, did you get to the bottom of this problem? I too was looking to clean the idle valve due to dropping idle but have just found it doesn't have one.
Jon Bhoy
Hi Joel,Short answer was no.I took it in for a service last year and they said they cleaned the throttle body. Seemed to rectify it for a month or two then started again . Done a fair bit of research and many have the problem and only way to rectify it is a newer version throtle body but heard amounts mentioned of about £500 so i am just putting up with it. iantt
new throttle body required or throttle postion sensor , or remove throttle body, give it a clean and relearn to pcm. new throttle body is p/n 1537636 new throttle postion sensor is p/n 1684542 NOTE: Do not press the accelerator pedal during the initialization period as this will prevent the complete initialization of the throttle body. Turn the ignition key to position II and wait for one minute to initialize the throttle body. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position
