Battery Drain Problem

Featured Replies

Fitted two sunvisor 7inch screens to my focus, linked up to a switch which is powered from perm live off cig lighter. Also i have my mobious dashcam linked up to same switch so that i can switch all off while not using.

On other side, i have another switch for my rear cam as i hooked it up to same perm live too so that it is on for towing purposes. But can be switched off when not using.

Havent used my car for a few days and battery was dead! Could there be a slow power draw from all the stuff i have off the perm live? Should i hook up to ignition live instead to solve this problem?

Hope all makes sense and someone can help with electrical solutions.

Run a permentant live to a relay controlled by the igntion switched live. That way you don't draw too much current away from the switched live :)

Agree with GingerFlame, the fact your running so many permalives is likely to be the reason.

I have nothing on permalive at the moment, all my gadgets are powered off 12v USB which is an ignition live only, and I havent had any issues, however, in the older days where I ran everything off the focus perma live 12v, I did get close to flattening the battery a few times!

Cheers guys. Can you show me what you mean with relay etc for the ignition live?

I assume hooking a wire onto ignition of radio?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

Run a wire from the battery to the relay, from the relay to your devices. Then run the 12v ignition switched as a signal for the relay

I ran a wire from a spare 12v fuse in the fuse box to the relay 12v input. I then ran the outgoing wire to my parking sensors, camera and reversing screen. It's always disconnected but I ran a wire from the reverse light to the switch on the relay. So when power goes to the reverse lights, this powers the switch on the relay and takes a direct feed from the battery to power my other devices. When I stop reversing and take it out of gear, the switch opens, the power flow stops and everything is off.
