Smoke Quite A Lot Actually

Featured Replies

Brought a 1.8tdci focus the other week just before I purchased my friend who owns the garage I got it from had replaced the turbo as it had blown a seal on the exhaust side? He said there was oil pouring out the exhaust. Anyways I have run the car steady under his instruction to run the new turbo in but when I give it any kind of welly or take it on the motorway I get blue smoke coming out the back. He said this is just oil in the exhaust burning off is this right?

depends how much oil is sitting in the exhaust system, can take quite a while if theres alot in the exhaust. wasnt the exhaust taken off and checked for excess oil. ive known if turbo seal gone that most of engine oil sucked into exhaust, only fix was replace exhaust.

or you could have another turbo issue ?

The turbo runs brilliant and theres no smoke until it's warmed up. The exhaust wasn't changed and I don't think he cleaned it either. He said it will burn off in time I just want to make sure he isn't having me on.

I'd tell him I want the exhaust cleaning or replacing, or clean the exhaust myself.

If it still smokes then I'd be worried about other issues

Took it down the motorway today and seems like the smoke has subsided :)

yeah sadly when you stick a load of oil in it takes a long time to burn off, the the exhaust is long with plenty of pits and channels and the silencer area it can all work its way into. It probably would do this for a few months, and exhibit itself more on hotter days than cold.

Yeah it smokes a touch when its warm when I first got it the smoke was horrendous. Engine oil level is perfect tho so I'm not worrying about it

yeah sounds right then., You will find that as you get the car up to temperature, it will increase furthermore if its starts a DPF regen, so if the MPG drops, and the fan stays on for a long time, the smoke will go up as there is more heat in the exhaust burning the oil.

Sadly the focus got taken back to the dealer the dmf and clutch let go after a week of ownership. Not to worry tho I have replaced the car with another focus albeit a mk1 1.6 zetec auto lovely smooth car and half what I paid for the tdci

They should have just fixed the other :s

I didn't want it back tbh mate it kept flashing its glow plug light whilst driving too and my mechanic friend told me that was usuay something to do with injectors. It was a jona car I should of got a petrol in the first place tbh. Lol

Lol fair game, but remember your rights. Any car bought from a dealer it is their responsibility to fix any inherent faults on the vehicle for the first six months, as it's assumed by the sale of goods act the fault was present at purchase

Yeah I know mate I threw that at him yesterday and he gave me a full refund. I downgraded with the petrol really 1.6 lx auto but its been lovingly cared for and has a full history.
