Hi, Wondering if anyone can help or advise me with my hit and miss c- max 1.8 TDCI 2006? The engine system fault light has been coming on and off and going into limp home mode and randomly cutting out at the most inconvenient locations for quite a while now, tried egr valve cleaner as some forums suggested this, was ok for a little while but soon went back to its old tricks, the other evening last week it was running really sluggish and had no pull at all when in limp mode and it felt like a fuel starvation issue. I purchased a new fuel filter for under the bonnet and it ran like a dream for the next two days, no system fault, no cutting out and I thought I had cracked it but it was no to be :-( it usually starts the day running well but still never sure if its going to cut out or not as it has done a couple of times recently. Any ideas please would be appreciated, thanks.

I'd blank the E.G.R.V. to begin with, about £5 off e - bay & cures many ills. :)

If you are getting the red cog light then it could be a heater plug issue

The fuel system on these uses the heater plugs to adjust fuel temperature even long after the engine has warmed up.

If there's a fault with the plugs then it can cause lack of power and systems light to come on.

I know I have a fault on my 1.8tdci but I've been putting off changing them until I have a spare car around cause I've seen loads of folk having real problems changing the plugs, not an easy job.
