Can Anyone Help With Starting My Escort 1.4 Manual Choke

hello i have a mk4 escort 1.4 CVH with a choke and it starts lovely every morning iv only owned it since friday and had it on the road thursday had to change rear wheel bearings and needed 4 tyres so not even looked at the engine yet timeing belt is due to be replaced and being done next week,

my problem is it starts in the morning choke out and its fully in quite quickly but if i stop go in to do shopping once i come out it wont start choke in or out i have it a little out and bit on the throttle but it still cranks quite alot before starting not sure what to check its been about 10 years since i had my last mk4 and never had this problem before hopefully someone on here can help or have a idea where to start
