Which Wheel Locking Nuts?

Featured Replies

I'm new on here so apologies if this has been asked before. Ive just bought a new Fiesta 1.0l Titanium from Motorpoint. It was built Dec 2014 in Germany for export to Malta (+MT) according to the ETIS vin site.

It has 17" alloys. I need to buy some wheel locking nuts as none were supplied so my question is how do I find out which nuts to buy? I have checked and they are the cone type but will any cone nut fit?

Thanks...

Did ETIS say you shouldn't have locking wheel nuts?

No mate.. It said "Less wheel locking nuts" I was thinking of getting the outer rotating ones.. Seen some Ford ones for around £25.

Just wanted to make sure they were gonna fit...

Ah fair enough. By the outer rotating type do you mean, there's a rotating ring to help prevent people removing them with tools? (Help prevent, not make impossible).

Or do you mean they have a rotating collar that presses against the wheel surface to help it rotate whilst you tighten it?

Ford have made some different ones now which look better and they don't rust you can then off e bay if not your ford dealer will have for 50 pounds

I would have thought that the rotaing outer part would make them impossible to remove without the correct key for the internal shape or am I wrong? Getting back to my original question, am I to presume any nut with a cone will be ok for my 17" alloys?

I removed the locking nuts off of my car (seller didn't give me a key). I had 1 of one type and 3 of the other. I removed all 4 within 45mins.. not disclosing how but it's not overly difficult. Unfortunately if people are determined to have your wheels they will do!

I think lenny May be able to help you with the locking nuts as I think he posted a link to a good set the other day! Try giving him a pm?

Kieran were these the rotating ring type?

There was the ones with a rotating collar to try prevent removal and there was the simple ones with a rotating washer to help them tighten up

Ford sourced locking nuts are usually the McGard brand.

I notice on my new car they are a new design whereby a number of lugs are around the outside of the nut rather than the earlier type which have the coded pattern on the face of the nut.

Maybe this reduces corrosion damage which renders the nuts unuseable after a while?

There is a set on e bay now at 10 pounds brand new

They look good but I dont think they will fit my Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost.. It says not when checking the ad on Ebay..

The Ford supplied locknuts on my 2013 Fiesta Zetec are totally different to the type in Stoney871's post.
