Dash Cams

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a dashcam? If so what model and how have you wired it up? :)

I have a mobius and hard wired it using a piggy back fuse lead.

Search "mobius" in the forum & you'll find all the info/photos & wiring info you need.

Thanks mate :)

Another happy Mobius user here. Best thing about it is probably its size.

I haven't even looked them up yet but really want something small that I can hide behind the rear view mirror and won't have to worry about it getting stolen. Any particular model??

I've got a mini 0801 hardwired into fusebox on my 2002 focus. Sits behind the mirror perfectly, a small brand name shows on the front but a little bit electrical tape over it makes the dashcam hard to see from outside unless you are looking for it.. Mini 0806 is the latest version I think but size is the same.

Great thanks! Have you got the wiring running Down the passenger A pillar? Did you need to remove this to hide the wiring?

There is no need to remove the A pillar trim, just pull off the door seal and you'll have plenty of space to tuck cable behind.

You may find it beneficial to remove the sun visor (clip & hinge) on the wiring side in order to allow easier access to pass the cable between the roof liner and pillar though.

Thanks Stoney. Seriously looking into this. I think Dash cams are becoming a nessesity as witnesses don't seem to stick around these days!!

If you ever witnessed a rtc and got bombarded with umpteen insurance company forms and reports you'd end up the same unfortunately.

I dunno. I witnessed a bad rtc involving a red light runner T-boning a little VW Up. I was the only one to stop and gave a statement to the police and that was it. Not heard anything since.

No, no need to remove pillar plastic thingy as Stoney said, I ran cable from camera up to headliner, if you press just above the windscreen rubber you can tuck the cable in behind, once you get along to pillar I just tucked the little bit cable down the top of it without having to remove it. Continue on to door rubbers (on the body) bend rubber back and tuck cable in, plenty room in there. Feed it down to just below the level of the dashboard and you can hide any excess behind carpeting etc. Once you start the job you'll be surprised how easy it was.

Prior to advice from other forum members I was tempted to pay for a dash cam to be fitted.

Not sure how much this would of cost but so glad I choose to have a go myself, was a real simple task especially using the parts/instructions given on here.

Yeah I do most things on my car myself, but tinkering with auto wiring is one thing I'd rather avoid. Now I know that's not nessesary I'm much happier to do it. At least when you do it yourself you know it will be done correctly and won't have marks on the interior trim...One of my pet hates!

Hi,

You may like to view my stealth dual camera fitting guide: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/65147-guide-fitting-dual-camera-dvr-system-focus-mk2-mk25/?p=438442

Although fitted to a mk2.5 focus the principles of fitting are the same.

Thanks Lenny, I'll take a look!

I have a Transcend Drivepro 200 fitted, I run the USB cable which powers the device around the sun visor (as it is normally always folded up), across and down the left side pillar, down the small gap between the door and the left side of the dashboard, around the underside of the footwell (held on with a sticky cable clip under the glovebox), around the side of the centre console which houses the gearstick and handbrake, and then up into an Energiser device which converts 1 Cigarette lighter socket into 3 lighter sockets and 2 USB's for mobile phone charging.

Works very well and automatically powers on when I put the cigarette lighter in, doesn't even need the ignition on.

It can be annoying as sometimes when I get home from work I forget to unplug it when I park up... so the dashcam is left recording overnight.... :P

Similar set up to you thatfiestaguy. The wiring is pretty much invisible to an outsider, except at the bit where it comes out of the sun visor. Plugging it into the cigarette lighter has become second nature to me, so I never forget to plug/unplug a the start/end of a journey. Kinda like using the handbrake.
