Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Hi all & good evening,

My daughter's fiesta has coolant leak. I've attached pics and it looks like a kind of rubber seal has misplaced. Can you pls advise whether an easy or expensive fix.

Thanks.

Ye Gods, that is quite a leak there sir. However, I cannot tell where it is coming from in that photo, I suspect higher up than the area shown.

It looks too fast to be anything head related. Is the engine running when it is doing this?

If I had to guess, shot in the dark here, looks like it could be a water pipe that is either cracked at a join or a loose jubilee clip. Should be quite obvious with a good look around.

That water looks clear. I reckon you may need to mix in some anti-freeze maybe.

thermostat housing /and or rubber seal between housing and block

Thanks for replies. Yesterday I had a proper look and yes Goodkat is correct in that the leak is coming from higher up possibly thermostat. Problem is the thermostat is under alternator and there's no way to run fingers or visual check as space is very limited. Also as need removing alternator and belt, the job is out of my skill and drop it to garage yesterday late afternoon. At least I know that the coolant has not made it's way to engine as oil looks fine and either is water pump or thermostat related.

I knew the leak so tried first with clean tap water as don't want complain from others :P. Also it's when engine is off. While running, the car does hold coolant well and the dash indicator shoots up to the normal half level (if i top up before driving).

Will update after I get the car back.
