Hand Brake Problem

Featured Replies

What happens when your hand brake goes lose but it still works?

It requires tightening? The handbrake continues to work but needs more 'clicks' to work? If it needs too many clicks it will be an MOT fail. Optimum is 3 ish, fail point if I remember right, which I probably don't and will need confirmation, is 7ish. Someone more in the know will probably know for certain.

"no reserve travel" is mot fail, (basically handbrake doesnt go tight before end of travel and pointing skywards! lol

most of the time handbrake goes loose is when 1 cable snaps, or if you have rear brake calipers, faulty adjuster mechanism in caliper, or rear drum brakes, worn/ non working brake adjuster, .

Thanks Iantt for clarifying!
