Newbie Needs Urgent Help With Spare Tyre!

Featured Replies

Hi

As I said the other day I am 75 and have just picked up my first Ford ever - a CMax 2L Auto Zetec and it is a great car however can I ask for help please?

Did not realise it had no spare only a 'kit' when I looked in the boot. I could not use this in fact I can not change a tyre due to my disablement and would rely on Green Flag if necessary so......

1. Would they know how to use the 'kit' to get me going ie are they a usual feature of Fords?

2. I notice there is a space (indent) in the boot for a spare. Would this be for a steel normal size similar to my 16" alloy or is it a smaller 'get you home' wheel?

3. Will it cost me a lot for a spare wheel with tyre and where do I go bearing in mind this is not a new car and I have a budget.

Any help you can give me please as I am going on a longer journey than usual in 10 days and want to be prepared.

Regards

Gordon

Hi, I would personally measure the depth of the wheel well & see if is same size as one on car , it maybe a case of trying one in .sometimes you have to slight deflate the air in tyre to make it fit.

As for a spare i would either look on ebay or try local scrapyard. Probably get one no more than £30. check size of tyre & rim & paste on here. On most cars these days you get what you call a spacesaver tyre, basically a skimpy bike like tyre which is limited speed . In another words just to get you home.

Regards.

and dont forget to get a jack.

i know you have said you will be unable to change it yourself, but if you have 1 then perchance a kindly soul will do the job for you rather then wait an eternity waiting for the breakdown company to do it for you.

spare wheel is not designed to fit in to wheel well to shallow

Thanks everyone I understand now - but may I ask theredfox has said spare wheel will not fit in space in boot but surely a spacesaver will yunii? as you indicated it is a thin wheel/tyre.

Thanks everyone but can I ask another question as I am new and just getting used to my car?

Immediately in front of the cup holders in the central console there is a socket which has nothing in it and I believe that this might be a cigarette lighter without the plug in unit (behind this socket is another which looks like a 3.5mm socket for an I pad or similar)

Can I use this first socket as a cig lighter and as a socket for say a plug in tyre pump? Do I just purchase a Ford gig lighter unit? I notice there is a similar socket in the boot as well.

Finally - I don't know if I asked this as just getting used to this forum. How can I change Farenheit to Celcius on the o/s temperature which shows on the menu between the speedo and rev counter.

Have tried all ways on the menu buttons but can do everything except this!

Thanks again everyone

Gordon

To change the temperature to Celsius but retain distance, fuel consumption etc in imperial measurements, use the menu stalk on the side of your steering wheel and scroll through the screens until you come across the outside air temperature. When you do, hold the set button and it will change from Fahrenheit to Celsius. This will also change on your AC controller at the same time.
