Shaker Radio Reprogramming

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

i am recently the owner of a V8 pony japan import, i have a problem with the radio, the frequency is limited to 90Mhz, so i have only one classic station icon_drunk.gif

The dealer told me that there is a possibility to reprogram the radio, it is about 200 Euro. but i am quiet sure that there is a possibility to do it without passing to see the dealer, by accessing to the service menu maybe (i don't know how) or even downloading the firmware and putting it on th eusb key and updating.

Any ideas where i can find the firmware update ?

Thank to you all for help !

I don't know anything about reprogramming the radio but as a former owner of a Japanese import Pajero I do know that you can buy a radio band expander https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_expander

I didn't have to install one but a lot of folks over on www.pocuk.co.uk have done ;)

Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/261915353646?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0

Hello Turvey,

Thanks for your advice. I am wondering if the installation is easy for my shaker. And what about the spectrum, it will indicate the real frequencyafter installing the expander?

hank you turvey for your advice, i am wondering if it is difficult to install on a stock radio.

i also found this site talking about expander problems, are you up t9 date about that?

Regards.

Like I said, I never had to install one so I'm speaking from what I remember other forum members posts, but AFAIK the extender goes inbetween the fitted aerial lead and the stereo(how easy that will be in your car, I don't know) and fit the red cable to a live connection and that's it :)

The extender 'shifts' the frequency up something like 20MHz so the stereo will still only display the original frequencies ie 79-90 MHz but will actually pickup 89-110MHz. Could be a wee bit fiddly but a lot less hassle than changing a stereo I would have thought.

Can't imagine you could reprogramme the radio to pick up different freqencies though, but I could be wrong.

P.S Stick some pics up of your car ;)
