Tow Bar Fitment

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Firstly hello I'm new to the site.

I have a tow trust towbar which I got off eBay. Just wondering on installation and wiring the 7 pin lol to the car. Is the wiring for it in the boot?

Much help is needed lol.

Thanks in advance

Hello & welcome Damien!

Apologies as I'm unable to help with the tow bar fitment (always just paid for someone to fit mine in the past).

There are plenty of helpful & knowledgeable people on here, sure someone will be along soon with advice.

Hello bud and welcome

I don't know if there's a dedicated plug already wired into your loom

However, it's a pretty easy job to splice into the wires. I would recommend a bypass relay - they not only reduce the load on the existing loom, but also tend to have the indicator buzzer included

Thanks guys.

Yea I went to my local car parts dealer. They told me that I need an indicator buzzer but as its on,y for trailer I don't need a relay box. I have called someone to fit it but they won't as its not their product. Oh well I will have a search and try myself

The relays come with the buzzer anway - and they're about £15 on ebay

Ok so I have the wiring sorted. Thanx Sean for help there. Now to fit the tow bar. How the hell do you remove the bumper lol

Haha - the bumper is probably the hardest part!!

The following is vague - but the only cars I've removed bumpers from are my Focus & a Seat Toledo lol

In the rear arches you should find some fixings. And across the boot lip and possibly underneath

You need to sort of pull it back and possibly out a bit - I recommend getting someone to help - the bumper is a bit floppy lol

Then it's likely a case of whipping off the rear crash bar and slotting the towbar in. No idea if you need to cut the bumper though

Well the towbar is fitted. Any idea what side the loom is on. Is it near side or offside

I've a feeling it's on the nearside.

Can't be certain - but it's easy enough to check

Haha failing that I will just pay a garage to wire it up lol
