Spare Key For St3

Featured Replies

I had to sacrifice my spare key for a viper alarm install. Is my only option to get a new one through Ford?. Any idea how much?

thanks!

What happened with the spare?

It was cannibalised for the alarm install. I still have the metal part.

I would guess that a replacement would only be available through a dealer. No idea on cost but I bet it's £££.

Get a spare complete key from ebay, transfer over the blade and get a local Auto Locksmith to code the immobiliser transponder for you.

Far cheaper than going to Ford.

Does that work with keyless fobs?

100% doable.

I added a third key to my last car (flip key to supplement the original fixed blade ones).

It wasn't an original key but work flawlessly for 3 years until I traded up to my ST.

Keyless fob is easy anyway, the Locksmith places it on the PATS receiver panel in the car (under armrest on mine) and plugs an IDS panel into the OBD port to code the key to the car.

It should take no more than 2 minutes tops to do.

Where are you?

Shouldn't cost more than £130

I'm in Northants. Does the £130 include the key? Cheers

Yes

i managed to get the insides of my spare key back from the alarm installer, minus the RFID chip which i can live without. Using an empty fob case from ebay i thought i could put a spare key together but i'm missing the battery contact clip, the eBay fob didn't come with one.

It's a long shot i know!, but i don't suppose anyone has any of these metal clips spare?

Can I ask, is your insurance company happy that the immo chip now has permanent residence inside the car ?

To be honest i haven't declared anything regarding the viper alarm install yet, although i assumed it would only have a positive effect.

Although i wasn't told upfront that the viper install would need the chip from my spare key (and i'm not really happy about it), i assumed, perhaps naively that this was ok as the viper would take over the immobiliser duties. From what i can make out this is a new method of installing the alarm on 2015 ST's, but i don't understand enough about it to question it with the installer.

(thanks for the previous info on the key btw).
