Ian C
Is there a problem with head gaskets on the Fiesta, mine blew at 12232 miles, or am I just unlucky? The car is a 2011 Fiesta Titanium 14oo, bought second-hand.
jmurray01
That definitely sounds like a factory defect or you somehow lost enough coolant to cause major overheating. Even the old Rover K-Series engines usually managed over 50,000 before blowing!
Ian C
Thanks Jamie for your thoughts; this was my conclusion also. I purchased the Fiesta on 11 June last year with just under 6,900 miles on the clock, the head gasket failed on the 26 June this year, just out of warranty. The dealer I bought it from - Busseys of Dereham , Norfolk - did not consider pursuing a product rectification through Ford UK; I am having to contact Ford myself ! Regards Ian C p.s. my previous car was a '96 Rover 214 with over 60,000 on the clock and never had a head gasket problem ...pity I sold it !!! We had a 1998 216 SLi 5dr which made it to 75,000 before the gasket blew in true K-Series fashion, emulsifying the oil in 2 litres of coolant. A bottle of K Seal later and it was back on the road for about 2,000 miles before the MOT expired and undercarriage corrosion plus exhaust emissions (probably related to the HGF) meant it was destined to be sold for parts. jeebowhite
the sale of goods act allows you to claim for faulty goods I believe up to 7 years after manufacture. You may find that you will have to pay for an independent engineers report to verify the fault is inherent - if it is, then you can present that evidence to Ford and they are obliged to fix it, and also reimbirse your losses
