Help With Choosing Remap For 100ps Ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi!

I have been thinking about getting a remap for my Fiesta, and would like som help to get the right one for me. I live in Norway, so I don't have access to the awesome tuning garages you have 'over there'.. My plan is therefore to get a map that I can apply (and revert) myself.

I wanted Bluefin, as I have read a lot of good things about it, but with the norwegian Crown being very weak compared to GBP atm it will be quite expensive.. Bluefin refused to declare lower value aswell, so i will have to pay 100 GBP VAT.

I have however looked at the MAXD-OUT thing they sell at both Pumaspeed and european-parts.net. The latter is interesting for me, as he could declare a lower value for me, making it what seems to be the best deal I have found yet. I have not found a lot of information on it though, so any thoughts on this would be appreciated. It also does require a Windows computer, although that's not a big deal.

Lastly, a local dealer sells a DIY OBD-box from Rica which also looks good, but it is even more expensive than Bluefin (about 565GBP).

Hi and welcome to the forum, Yikes that does sound expensive over there, give http://www.dieseltuning.co.uk/ a message and see what they can do for you also there's a forum code FOC30 you can use to get 30% off anything on there online store.

I don't know what VAT &delivery entails there but it's worth asking if you explain your situation.

Thank you :)

I have looked at that aswell, but I'm not sure about those plug-&-play boxes.. Isn't a proper remap better for the engine?

I don't know about better for the engine (I've had one for nearly 2 years/20k miles and not a single issues and that's on an Alfa :P ) but it is possible to get that bit more bhp from the engine tune if you take it to a good remapper, don't get me wrong a cheap tuning box is never going to be good news either I don't recommend going that route.

Always read reviews and do research, as I have had a remap in the past (Which was great but expensive, £850 with DPF removal at the time) which was a nightmare to sell as some people wanted it putting back to stock and I was lucky to then find someone who wanted to buy it tuned. I then wanted to try another route so I spent alot of time researching my options and reading reviews before I decided I was happy to try Spider, haven't looked back since and onto my second box on my second car :P

Afaik those boxes can only alter some parameters, like air and fuel flow, but leave some unchanged which may mean that the engine is not running properly. But I'm no expert on the area, that's why I'm asking here. :)

I think I might contact Pumaspeed regarding the MAXD-OUT box, as that seems to be what they are using. They seem to be a fairly respected tuner. B)

That's why I said contact them (their live chat is live so you'll get instant feedback) and tell them your situation and concerns and they will give you all the information you want to know and then you can disregard them if your not keen. I've just found out speaking to them that the boxes also can add extra turbo boost if the air temps and fuel conditions are good and safe enough to, so they are doing more than just the old air and fuel flow.

Just so you know though that the Bluefin, MAXED-OUT, Tuning box, Diesel Tuning UK etc boxes are just plug and play boxes too which do similar things with different methods and features, so your worries would be the same with all of them. I really would check out their sites, speak to them and choose your personal preference :)

Bluefin and MAXD-OUT are connected to the OBD-port and overtwrites the original file in the ECU. The other "plug-and-play"-boxes can only "mess" with the signals in and out of the ECU.

I would therefore expect the actual remaps to be better.. Also, I can't find any dyno results on those PnP's, so the listed results might be just theoretical. I have no doubt they make a difference, but I'm still sceptical..

I'm still leaning towards MAXD-OUT, but might see if I can find a Bluefin dealer that will declare a low value on the shipment.. After all, I'm mostly paying for software.

Fair enough :D let us know how you get on and what you go for, hopefully others can give you more advice :D

I just contacted http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk, and they wouldn't declare lower value either. It is, after all, technically fraud.

However, the Bluefin is much cheaper there than from Superchips themselves. Can't really figure out how, but they list the price in NOK (my local currency), which might have an impact, given the strong GBP atm. I am now strongly considering Bluefin, even though it is still more expensive than MAXD-OUT..

if you want max-d out... speak to danny mcquire on facebook as he is doing a deal on them atm
