Lack Of Power Every Morning

Featured Replies

We have a mk7 1.6 zetec s and every morning when we pull away from the drive there is no power for about 5 seconds then it's fine, have tried putting the foot to the floor and also feathering the throttle, both make no difference. Any ideas what could be wrong? There is no EML light on.

Thanks Calum

Mine does this as well but usually on supermarket fuel.

Often use Shell regular fuel and I don't think it does it then.

Hi there.

I fill mine with Momentum 99 and I can say that on my first drive of every day, it always has a two second loss of power if I pull away from an uphill junction in second gear. It's fine in first gear and for every drive thereafter in the day.

Exact same car as you otherwise and there is nothing wrong with it (other than that) whatsoever.

Calum,

What petrol do you use?

Don't use Asda (haha I'm annoying myself now)

Calum,

Normally tesco 95ron, would it really make a difference?

I have to run my Impreza on 99ron as that's what it's been remapped too but didn't think fuel would make a huge difference on a standard car.

Will try 99 in the zetec s and see if it makes any difference

Cool, I'd be interested to see how the results go. report back if you will please

MK7.5 with Mountune and I've noticed this. I uses momentum 99 but don't think it's fuel related.

The car does an abs test when you start it at arround 18mph so guess you'll notice a lack of power. That's what my old Mk2.5 Focus ST used to do.

I am the same I don't think it's to do with what fuel is used, I don't think it can be a major problem as the car is faultless the rest off the time just the first couple of seconds, it hasn't always done it, maybe in the last couple of weeks. The car still has 2 years warrenty so might stick it back to ford for them to have a look at, just annoying it's only first thing as I bet when I put it there it won't do it.

What happens if you put the key to On (not Starting the engine) leave it for a few seconds till most of the dash lights go out (except the battery and engine light I think) then put in your clutch and start. Being use to diesels and glow plugs this is my routine and never had this issue being described, so try it and see if it makes any difference?

Also in winter it sometimes helps the start up by letting the engine run for 20 seconds before taking off anyway after its been left idol over night/weekend. If I try to put my foot down strait away it wont rev over 2500rpm, wait 20 seconds and put your foot down it revs right to the top of the redline.

Just things to see if the engine has a temporary warm up period which limits power output from cold and might help.

Hi I had a focus and mine was doing the same think sent it in to Fords and fitted a new clutch under warranty and was fine apparently the clutch was warped

Sent from my iPad using Ford OC

Try a tank of NON supermarket and see how you get on.

Think mine did this on regular Tesco and 99.

I tend to use regular Shell as I drive past the station every day.
