62 Plate Fiesta Grinding In Third Gear.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got a 2013 62 Plate 1.2 Fiesta. It's done 15K about a week ago it started grinding when going into third gear. It does this all the time.

I booked it into my Ford dealer and they confirmed the problem, but said they wouldn't be able to look at it for over a week. They then said it takes 10 hours to take the gearbox out. Then they have to send pics of the damage to Ford and then Ford have to give approval to repair the damage. The process will take 3 days, and I have to pay for a courtesy car. I would of thought when I booked the car in they would of allocated enough time to fix it, as I had described the problem to them.

Surely it doesn't take 10 hours to remove a gearbox?!! Also they said if Ford didn't believe it was a manufacturing problem I would have to pay.

As I'm sure you can understand I'm not happy about this.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

Thanks

Try a different garage. My 62 plate 1.0 started grinding gears. I did have to book it in but it took about a day and a half and i got a courtesy car for free. Car was under warranty.

Thanks, what was the solution to fix the problem?

I had worn synchros probably due to an engine remap. I removed the engine remap and said nothing about it to ford. They assumed a failure and replaced it under warranty no questions asked. Try a different ford dealership. They will carry out the work and simply invoice ford for it as long as it is still under warranty.

Thanks again.

it is 10 hours , thats time to remove, strip down , replace parts and reassemble, refit in car.

ford should pay, cant see what other than manufacturing defect it will be.

They said 10 hours just to remove it, which seemed unbelievable.

nope. 2hrs max to remove.

Cheers, taking it to another main dealer tomorrow. Hopefully a better one.

where ever you go, it will take 3 days or so, first day to remove and strip, then ford authority to do it, then order parts, reassemble and refit, possible in 2 days but but more likely 3
