Seat Belt Chime Help!!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My seat belt chime started going off a couple of months ago. I found out how to turn it off by buckling and unbuckling it 9 times, which worked up until a few weeks ago. The car has decided to turn it back on every now and again, so some days it will turn itself on, others it will be silent. The original method of turning it off doesn't work now!!

Does anybody have any ideas short of taking it to the dealer? Thinking of cutting the wire to the belt, however I've seen to take caution just in case it's connected to the air bag too.

Help would be much appreciated as it's really getting on my nerves!!

Thank you,

Rhys

I have a fiesta and sometimes when I put my work bag on passenger seat it goes off. Probably a pressure switch on seat pad somewhere?

Big question- Are you wearing your belt or bypassing it?

If not being worn then no further advice will be offered on that subject.

If it's being worn but malfunctioning then do not cut any wires, doing so will cause an airbag error which will be an MOT failure.

Check the wiring connectors under the seat are firm (disconnect battery for 20 minutes first).

Agreed with Stoney, he is a copper and will nick you if needs be. Unless you have a medical reason not to be wearing a belt, or have an alternate restraint system (like a 4 point harness) then I am sure advice could be given.

My old man was once involved in a RTA without a seatbelt (pre seatbelt days) where he damn near scalped himself going through a windscreen. He was lucky. The occupants of the BMW that hit him weren't so lucky. All killed.

I am wearing it! The chime comes on when I'm wearing it, that's the problem!! and it's only the drivers side which has the sensor, the passenger side doesn't!

Cheers

Apologies for any wrong assumptions fella, gotta be careful in these days of compo culture! I would be looking at replacing the pressure sensor and the switch in the buckle locking mechanism, which must deactivate the warning when the belt is fastened.
