Focus Mk3 Sony Dab System Upgrade Questions

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

First post here! I've recently got a 2012 Titanium X and loving it, but I'm not too happy with the audio, it's kinda muddy, lacking in the clarity and has no bass punch. I've been reading around, watching videos, and looking at threads on here so have some idea but would just like to run it past you guys.

From what I can tell (watching this video) the sony 9 sony speakers sytem in my car isn't great, assuming the uk sony speakers are the same as the US ones (obviously we don't get the sub). I don't want to change the factory radio and want save as much boot space as possible (so a slim sub is preferred) and the sub should be removable in case I need the extra space or access to the spare tire.

I've read Stevenlee's thread which relates to upgrading the 6 speaker system but I don't know if the different stereo/amp in the9 speaker system changes things up a bit?

So it seems from that I'd need, at a high level, 2 sets of component speakers (4 woofers, 4 tweeters), a sub, and either a 5 channel amp or a 4 channel and a mono, is that about right? I'd appreciate some recommendations, I've had a look at the JL Audio stuff (the C2-650 component sets and powerwedge tw3 sub) but it isn't cheap, Or if I'm barking up the wrong tree with upgrading the sony system again, open to suggestions. Don't really want to spend more than £1k but we'll see.

Thanks!

Also, should the speaker in the dash just been disconnected and forgotten about? Seems it doesn't really help.
