Paint Work Scratch! Help.

Featured Replies

hi guys,

washed my car on Sunday and I have noticed a very nasty scratch, well more than a scratch is a dig which has gone past the white paintwork and to the base where you can see the metal...(Ba*tards!) whoever has done it!

Just after a good solution to sort this out, anything off the shelf I can buy in Halfords, my old man has previously bought like a colour magic pen from Halfords for his car and got a scratch out, but this is very deep..of course I need to do sooner rather than later to avoid rusting.

Please help!!

thanks

James

If it's as deep as you say, you could see how much halfords would charge to sort it. It sounds like it will need 'filled' and as its not an 'older' car you'd want a decent job done so I wouldn't try it myself as the only real way to fix it would be to spray the panel but it all really depends on how big the scratch is.

Its the length of a hair clip and about same sort of width - ill chat with halfdords. ta

Post a picture of it. Halfords don't do paint jobs. They only sell paint which is rather good

Where on your car is the scratch? It may well be possible to do it yourself.

Ill stick a picture up once I finished work. its passenger side rear door about 3 inches below the window. When I say hair clip I mean the thin hair clips! haha

Actually halfords do do paint jobs, and might depend which halfords you go to! My father had a 3 inch long scratch redone for instance at their Livingston branch.....they probably won't however repainted a whole car

Try your local chips away agent, they are usually very good with this sort of thing and cheaper than a body shop will be

Well you learn something new every day Russ. Until today I'd never heard of Halfords repairing paintwork.

Our one has a small rent erected outside with UV lights for 'touch up' jobs. my dad had a metallic orange Suzuki swift with a 3 inch deep scratch on the wheel arch, they touched it up with paint, levelled it off then relaquered the area, all in all they did quite a decent job.

Was that at a store or at a garage they now have? How much did they charge?

What body panel? Look on YouTube. There's loads on there for scratch removal.

As I said above in an earlier comment - its the passenger side rear door.

Oh. I must have forgot. Tho do look on YouTube. There are lots of great tutorials on scratch removal.

You can make it look better, You can buy a scratch repair kit, prep tool, primer, colour, top coat and a blending polisher.

If you're like me you will always see it! Then end up getting it done properly, £200/ £300 quid if you shop around.

Try chips away, google it and find your nearest agent, they come to you.

My son had a dent and paint scuff removed from the rear wheel arch of his fiesta just before Christmas. It was just over £100 and you can't see where it was now. Far cheaper than a body shop and looks better than a day bodge!

Getting a good finish with aerosol paint is a nightmare and the colour is never spot on, especially from places like halfords.

Thanks for your help people. I haven't got the money at the moment to get it sorted, off on hols within next few weeks trying to pay off! how long before starts going rusty????

Rust can happen within minutes. Go get some kurust made by Hammerite. Paint it on to the metal and it'll turn blue showing it's working.

That was outside their store at the Shopping mall. Not sure how much he paid but unless you knew he'd had it done you'd never have noticed it. I should also add, the paint used was NOT out of a touch up can, it was mixed properly to suit!
