Had A Bump :(

Featured Replies

Had a bit of a bump on the way home from work Friday night, joining a dual carriageway and someone pulled out into me from the left lane without signalling. My left wing got crumpled and moved so as a result my passenger door wouldn't open. Wheel balancing has suffered as a result and got a nice scrape down my alloy. Didn't think the damage was too bad, thought at first it was cosmetic so decided to not bother with a claim, until i got home and discovered my passenger door wouldnt open as a result of the wing being moved. Not a cheap fix either, attached images of damage.

Took it to a body shop this morning to see how bad the damage is, i'm looking at:

Left wing needs replacing

Passenger side door needs re-working and respraying

Left side of the front bumper needs re working so its back in line

Possible bracket replacement for the left wing / front bumper

Not a cheap fix :( So i've had no choice but to take it through insurance. I've just switched insurance providers as well

Might just be me but why make a claim against your insurance? Make the claim against the third party who hit you so that all costs come direct from them.

Sorry thats what I'm doing :)

Ah ok (just me then - long day :D).

I've heard people say to inform your own insurance company that you don't want to recover costs but claim them directly (if that makes sense) so that it's not a claim through your insurance recovered later on.

It could well be the way I worded it haha.

I've gone through my insurance because at the time we stopped we didnt exchange details as we didnt feel it was needed. But it was when i got home that i realised there was far more damage than originally noticed. (I know, bad judgement call at the time, learnt from that now)

My insurance company has to be involved so that we can get in touch with the other driver as I have is Reg no and Dash cam footage. MY insurers have told me that if no fault is found on my part then it wont affect my premium (until I renew no doubt) or my no claims bonus and that the other drivers insurer will be in touch to sort out the claim
