Grinding Noise When Breaking

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My car has started making a grinding type noise when breaking.

It started after I had to slam on to avoid someone who had no concept of the give way rules!!!

As I pulled away, there was a slight judder, like you get with these new electronic hand brakes, and now I have this grinding noise under breaking, like something is caught in the pad

Breaks still work, but the noise is causing some concern. Any ideas what it might be?

Car is a mk2 focus

Thanks :)

Pads look ok. Could it be some sort of wear indicator for the disks?

Check if the brakes are binding by jacking the car up, support with axle stands and then spin the wheel by hand. The piston might be sticking and holding the pads onto the disc. It will be easier to find whatever the problem is by doing that.
