After a bit of searching i couldnt find any coherent info on what can cause Knocking in the 1.8TDCI

this only happens every now and then but on start up you can hear it knocking very clearly as did a passer by who threw a funny look :P. thing is as soon as i put it in gear its gone and wont come back untill the next journey, maybe not even then its been so intermittant that ive not paid any attention to it.

Any ideas what it could be? car was serviced in April by myself, did Air, Fuel and oil filters plus oil change, slightly overfilled. was knocking before this however.

DMF? does the noise change while the clutch is partially pressed?

if you press and release the clutch while the car is off and start it again and you hear the knock then it probably is. thats the noise my old DMF made

I havent checked this to be honest, Expensive job i guess if this is causeing the knock

So yeah. Started it and it was knocking, depressed clutch and it stops comes right back when clutch released. Guessing Labour on this job is going to push it right up.

So booked in for a new Flywheel and clutch on Thursday at a cost of £735.35!!! got a hire car for a few days so cant grumble
