I've hunted through the entire user manual and can't find any mention of this.

I'm guessing it might be a light sensor for auto headlights but as this feature and rain sensor

was integrated behind the rear mirror on my previous Focus I'm curious to learn what this is

I thought it was the sensor for the remote central locking? I'm not sure myself though.

I have one but don't have autowipers. . . The sensors for those are in the windscreen it's self.

Solar sensor for climate control

You mean the black dome on dash near the bottom of windscreen? If you are then its the sunload sensor for aircon,
