Your better off taking yhe grille off to paint it but be sure the bonnet lock is working before you close your Bonnet.

Make sure you use plastic primer so it bonds better.

Yeah mate will be taking grill off that's what I was wondering about closing it with grill off as car will need to sit in street while grill being done cheers

I recently sprayed the lower grill a lot easier when its off. I will be attempting the upper grill but like you not sure if it will close ok or if its driveable.

You'd probably be better off taking a day to do it. Plastic primer dries fairly quickly in my experience so will the paint if you do light coats. I put a shed load on lacquer on and waited a few hours so it was mostly dry. It should be fine as long as you don't handle it too much when you put it back on. I'm looking to buy another grille and fog light surrounds so I can spray them off the car and use a gun to do he lacquer. Much better finish and durable.

Me to I won a zetec 's lower grill on ebay for a £1 got plastic primer last night so I will be doing lower first as well

What a Bargin thats an awesome win!

Good job! Unfortunately there's no other grills or fog light surrounds for the mk2 :( I'm just gonna get some new ones and do my own thing to them and respray my car next month hopefully!

I've been on a bit of a spraying spree recently.

did the fogs a year ago. But done the grill and engine bay recently

How easy were the Alloys? i thought of doing this when i get a new set but only ever sprayed on plastic so not sure how to approach this. at the moment i have two Steelies and two standard 5 spoke on the car as I savaged my other two alloys buy thinking i could take a corner like Ken Block and smashing into a curb sideways :censored::iim:

Also done a repsray of a ford Capri for a mate with chrome trim - tape come up on the grille so overspray whoops!

It would depend on how damaged the alloys are as to hard they are to do. You would need to fill them if they are bad.

The principal is the same, clean, sand down with 600 grit sandpaper and some steel wool on the hard to get to edges. Primer a few coats, sand with 800 grit paper to smooth out. Clean, spray paint you colour a few coats, lacquer and then polish/buff when dry.

think i will get st grill and spray that to give me time aint done anything today as

its !Removed! down all day the joys of Scotland

To be honest considering how cheap the St grilles are I would have one straight away if I had the mk2.5 I don't know why everyone doesn't. You don't know how blessed you all are with the choice of trim!
