Mk1 Focus Cigarette Lighter - Turn Off?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if it is possible to make the Cigarette Lighter Turn Off when I turn the ignition off?

I have a Dual USB socket plugged into it with an LED light on and its a pain unplugging it when getting out the car.

Only real way is to run a new loom from the socket and piggyback it off an ignition live fuse in the footwell board.

Only real way is to run a new loom from the socket and piggyback it off an ignition live fuse in the footwell board.

Thanks! May have to look into doing this, I'm sure all my other cars switched the cig lighter off with the ignition but could be wrong!

Most cars do but Ford is different for some (annoying) reason.

I have made a few piggyback looms for club members for adding spare switched sockets to Fiestas and Mk2/2.5 Focus, haven't made one for a Mk1 as yet but if you want me to make one for you I'd need a reasonable approximation of how long a wire to make to reach from the internal fusebox to the rear of the socket (including allowances for routing around dash/radio etc).

I usually make these for £15 inc postage but as you would only be connecting from fusebox to an existing socket I could knock one up for £10.

This would include all connectors from socket rear to fusebox and be pretty much plug'n'play apart from having to connect one of the wires to a body mounted bolt/screw for earthing.

Pretty sure we could easily determine which fuse position on the box to use which would give a switched source.

If you are interested then P/M me and we'll go from there.
