High Pitched Whine When Accelarating

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2014 Ecoboost 1.0100hp Fiesta which has done around 9000km so it's practically new. Since last week I have started noticing a high pitched whine from somewhere on the drivers side (Left hand drive as I am in the EU). I suspect it is happening when accelerating but I have also occasionally noticed it when turning the steering wheel slightly to the left. It became more pronounced today when doing higher speeds say 100kph or more on dual carriageways and motorways. It should be said that I just completed a 1200km road trip. It has also done more KMs in the last three months than almost all of last year, so perhaps it is just breaking in.

I have some more largish road trips coming up so am curious to know if it is time to take it back to the dealer for a check-up? The car is under a 5 year warranty so it is easy enough to take it back if required.

Cheers,

Rod

Sounds like the alternator belt or an alternator bearing. The steering is electric so places a greater load on the battery when turning.

Back to the dealer and complain!

Hey Deiselpig, thanks for the information. Now that I have no major trips planned for a while I will drop it off and have it checked over.

Well the garage couldn't find anything wrong and I also went out with them for 30 minutes on the motorway and no whining sound... anyway it may reappear again soon on a longer trip.
