Cooling Fan Coming On Randomly.

Featured Replies

Hi folks. I have a 2010 Fiesta 1.6 Tdci and the engine cooling fan seems to come on randomly, it seems to have little to do with outside temperature or traffic conditions. It only stays on for 2-3 minutes then goes off. It can happen twice in one week or not at all. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and did you manage to get it fixed. Thanks.

Could be the DPF trying to regenerate, if you spend a lot of time in slow moving traffic the DPF will clog with soot. Get on the motorway and take it for a good 50 mile+ blast.

I've got an 09 (no dpf I believe) and mine does this. Tends to happen mostly on really short drives.

It may be thermal soak, as you slow down the water pump moves the water at a slower rate so the heat from the engine will rapidly heat the water and just flip the temperature sensor.

I would be more worried if the engine overheated or the fan failed to come on.

Thanks folks. Doesn't sound like it's anything to be overly concerned about then.
