Egr Blanking

Featured Replies

Hi guys does anyone know how much it costs, about, to blank off the egr valve on a 2007 cmax 1.6 tdci in a garage. I'm thinking of getting this done and I'm not very mechanically minded to do it myself. I was thinking of getting it Terra cleaned but I don't want to pay for that if its going to be false economy.

Doing it yourself - it's about a half hour job + £5 for the blanking plate - in a garage maybe £30 ?

See my 1.6TDCi EGR blanking guide here:

Also TerraClean would be worth doing however i dont believe the TerraClean process does anything to the engine oil sump contents,

I recommend using the AtomEx TotalFlush as saw in the EGR blanking guide to eliminate carbon deposits caused by the once active egr valve.

If spending a few quid and planning to keep the vehicle for a few years you may consider DPF internal removal instead of TerraClean in order to prolong the life of the turbo and avoid a bill of replacing a blocked dpf in the future.

AtomEx MultiClean for Diesel is also a great product for flushing through the fuel system,

Much cheaper than the TerraClean process with proven results unlike Redex it doesnt strip oil from parts,

AtomEx cleans and coats small imperfections with a thin ceramic protective coating.

Considering the pound is very strong against the euro at present; its much cheaper to purchase above items from Xado Ireland rather than Xado UK save yourself over 10 pounds :)

After blanking the EGR valve you may also consider upgrading the induction filter to a Green Cotton Performance filter,

Because after blanking the egr; the engine sucks in up to 20% more clean air rather than waste gasses.

A smoother flowing filter provides the air at a faster rate as required which in turn increases your MPG, reduces turbo lag and lasts much longer than a stock filter before requiring change/replacement

Link to Guide discussion and discount code,

i believe your model takes a panel filter select correct model on the website linked here: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/

Need to leave comment so I don't lose this thread when I'm on laptop later... :D

Remember that molten aluminium & water are explosive ! - Yes really.

The blank must be ferrous steel :)

Ah Yeh, I stuck a magnet from my phone cover near the blanking plate I have, :( no sticky :( I'll try again at some point with a proper magnet, but I'm not 100% sure it's good

Can I do this to a 1.8 tdci and what benefits does it have??

thanks

And is the process the same as above??

benefits are all the same, accounting for the potential EML coming on, I would say its always worth doing. did it to my cmax and well worth the hassle!

Ok ace where do I get parts etc

ebay, stainless steel blanking plate is required, and you need a basic socket set

Hi there,

He can I get access to your eye blanking guide? I'm being told I don't have permission right now. It would be great to learn from your experience.

Thanks

Probably a silly question but some have gaskets and some are just plates, do you need a gasket for blanking off the egr? Getting it remapped in Jan so will get the EGR deleted

You can usually get away with using your current gasket when fitting the blank, but a new one should reduce the chance of any leaks so up to you really.
