Larger Gearknob Gaiter And Trim

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone knew where I could get a larger gear knob gaiter and the silver trim as I brought a different centre console with the arm rest and silver running down the centre but I didn't realise the trim around the gearstick was bigger. I have looked on ebay but don't really know what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any help.

You need one meant for a car after 2008 (facelift mk2).

They are a bit rare for some reason and over £100 from Ford.

Ideally you need one which is complete (knob, gaiter, base and chromed trim) as the knob clamps onto the gaiter unlike the pre-facelift kit which has the knob with a lower rim that the gaiter attaches to with an elastic collar.

Thanks Stoney, your a legend :) managed to find a complete one on ebay for £25 this morning, only one so I grabbed it.

I've always been told the size doesn't matter...

On this subject though, Stoney, do you know which gaiter I'd need for a facelift? And is it changeable without anything else?

I tried ebay but there are hundreds on there! Mines a low miler for year so done a lot of gearchanges in its time and the back of the gaiter has cracked and split which is annoying when the rest of the interior is mint! I also don't want to buy a cheap replacement that won't fit right or won't last long really.

I'd look for a decent leather one.

The gaiter is held onto a black clip ring (which hooks into the chrome bezel) with staples and the ring is a bit flimsy but with patience and a gentle hand you can pull the staples out and refit the gaiter with new ones.

The knob is held onto the gaiter with a locking collet that needs levering off, judicious use of small screwdrivers and a spare pair of hands would help.

How much!? I'd want a whole cow for that...

ill have one up on ebay tomorrow, i originally removed the plastic trim and stapled the leather into the MK2 surround trim, but ill be re-stapling it into the mk2.5 one.

How much for, save ebay fees? You can PM me if you like...
